Anyway, what is most important now is that we need three things:

the database backup
the vBulletin
the domain name

We could also use a backup of the uploaded content i.e. the pics, attachments... a backup of the monkeys directory of the server account would be cool.

I'd like to know what Jacob has to say about that.
  • If the domain costs about 10 Euros I think each "hardcore" monkeys can donate 1-2 Euros. Don't think the domain is the main problem.
  • vBulletin shouldn't be a problem too. Dylan just has to sent us the licence number, etc. Just everything we need to run this board
  • Database backup? Re-design? Ok these are all things I don't have any knowledge about. Maybe you should stay in contact with Dylan.

Moving to another server wouldn't be such a big deal.. If someone is willing to organise a new server/hoster I could definitely help in moving the site. There's no need to rebuild the site.
The vBulletin files have to be copied and the database to be backuped and reinstalled, that's no problem at all.

Regarding the domain name: The domain is registered at joker.com and in the interest of making the change of domain ownership easy, someone just has to register there and I can transfer the ownership. Someone with credit card prefered, since renewals are very easy then.

Regarding donations: I have to say, that's not the way I like it. I was happy to do the hosting all these years and I don't find it is wasted money, even if I haven't been so active the last months (that's because I'm currently not so in dmb anymore).
The real reason behind this is that I have to cut my monthly costs. I am a student again (after having been employed for 2 years.. uh uh), have about 600eur a month which has to last for students dorm (300eur), food, train and I also try to squeeze out some beers

YO!
Haven't been too active the last year or so. Have had a lot of stuff going on with graduation, working and getting a trainee position. It has all come in order so I have got a lot more time to stuff like this now adays..
Anyway, paying the 10-15 euros a year would'nt ruin me in any way, and I'd like to help economicly if this is the main problem. Not too good on the server/computer-thingies part though.

I've had a lot of good laughs and good reads on this site, and would very much like it to continue. And as I wrote, I would gladly help by donating 10 or 15 euros if this is needed.

Perhaps I could solve your problem with the hosting of the board/site, but first of all I need some information about the structure and the resources that it utilizes.

How much DBs do you need?
How much space do the site uses?
How much is the monthly traffic that the site uses? (better would be statistics for the last months/years)

I'm fit enough in PHP/MySQL etc.
A friend of mine worked in this domain/hosting firm Joker - as far as I know it really sucks! It'll be better if the domain gets moved. If you want me to help we have to do it really quickly, because in the middle of March i'm going to begin with my degree dissertation
Greets

P.S. But don't expect me to moderate the board or administrate the site. Someone else should do this.

I'm all for it that Sergey takes it over, and I still support the donation idea ...

same here. i think a server movement is a good idea.
unfortunately i neither have the knowledge nor a server for hosting the boards.
And I'm very occupied with universety stuff 'til end of April, so I dont have too much time 4 learning that

Please don't let proudestmonkeys.org die!

At the moment I can't help much 4 server movement, but I'm still willing to support pm with some €uros if money is the point.

I wrote an email to dylan but still have no answer. May be he hadn't read my the post or the email yet. It'll be very sad if the site goes down. Not that I'm the most frequent user, but it is the only dmb board that I visit from time to time.
